A different side of Florentine design
Noteworthy for: The Continentale’s connection with Florentine designer Salvatore Ferragamo doesn’t stop with bathroom toiletries. Guests also get a 10% discount at the Salvatore Ferragamo Creations Santa Trinita boutique.
A homage to the Italian 1950s isn’t exactly what you’d expect to find squeezed into the ancient backstreets by Florence’s Ponte Vecchio. This small surprise makes the four-star Hotel Continentale all the more refreshing, its cool white interiors inspired by Italian design’s post-war heyday coming across as wonderfully refined and minimal.
Rooms are compact but well designed, with bathrooms stocked with Ferragamo toiletries. Some have magical views across the River Arno. Even if your room isn’t one of these, you can enjoy the view from the hotel’s rooftop bar, whose gorgeous outlook makes it hugely popular for a summer sundowner (though it doesn’t face the sunset directly).
The Continentale wins points for its busy, extremely central location. While the Ponte Vecchio is on your doorstep, the Uffizi Gallery and central Piazza della Signoria are within less than five minutes walk.
