Buzzing wine courtyard out in the sticks
Tipple of choice: While the wine list is great, don’t miss out on cocktails such as the Venus Flytrap, made with blueberry shrub syrup, Dorothy Parker Gin and Suze.
From the outside, this bar in the quayside Bywater neighborhood looks like it’s ready to fall down. But while Bacchanal’s 200 year old building may look the worse for wear outside, inside is something completely unexpected: a gorgeous tree-filled open air courtyard and wine shop serving up old world wines and food to a lively, happy crowd.
Specializing in live jazz, Bacchanal has started to tap into New Orleans’ visitor crowd, but thanks to the backwater location, there’s still an appealing authenticity to the place.
