A slice of Melbourne in Midtown
Popular plate: Try the house-cured salmon with mascarpone, dill and capers.
This Australian-run coffee place doesn’t put a foot wrong. The minimal wood-lined décor is easy and chic, the service is friendly and the substantial food menu is far better than even the average aspirational café. But it’s still the Modbar under the counter coffee-making system – New York’s first – that truly gets coffee nerds all steamed up about Little Collins.
Looking rather like beer taps, the system provides precision espresso, pour over and steam coffee that some argue is among New York’s best. Regulars mix casual passers-by and coffee obsessives, in a mix hipper than you’d expect for the Midtown location.
