Cocktail bar where food shines through
Popular plate: Go for the seasonally rotating menu of wild oysters.
Tipple of choice: Ask for a recommendation from Mary Celeste’s excellent selection of natural wines.
This Marais bar-cum-tapas joint sits squarely on the fence between drinking den and proper restaurant. Created by the team behind Candelaria, it’s a quirkily decorated place – exposed brickwork, vaulted wooden ceiling and modernist stained glass – that consistently packs in a hip crowd, for the simple reason that its drink and food are superb.
Drinkers and diners – all perched on bar stools – are equally welcome, but it would be a pity to miss out on trying at least one of the Franco-Asian tapas plates.
