Casa do Alentejo
Traditional Portuguese fare served inside a Moorish palace
Word to the wise: The actual restaurant is on the top floor. You’ll have to pass through the interior patio and climb several flights of stairs to get here.
The Rua das Portas de Santo Antão is a pedestrian street full of lively restaurants. On the cobblestone walkway, you’ll most likely encounter a number of touts trying to hustle you inside one of the numerous bistros. Casa do Alentejo makes for a wonderful reprieve from the commotion on the street. The food is hearty Portuguese, with many of the dishes coming from the Alentejo region. The wonderful setting is complete with a lovely interior patio, a ballroom upstairs, azulejos (artful blue tile work) covering the walls and plenty of Moorish décor. Casa do Alentejo is truly one of a kind in Lisbon.
